Dr Sharif Fattah has recently been convicted in Australia on a number of sexual offending charges involving female patients. The offending occurred in early 2016.

Dr Curtis Walker (Te Whakatōhea, Ngāti Porou) was today elected chairperson of the Medical Council of New Zealand.He succeeds Mr Andrew Connolly who has been the Council's chair since February 2014. Announcing the appointment, the Council's chief executive, Joan Simeon said Dr Walker would bring “a tremendous depth of knowledge and experience” to the role, which would be invaluable to the Council in its role of protecting public health and safety.
The attached letter from Mr Andrew Connolly, Chair of the Medical Council of New Zealand has been sent to the New Zealand Resident Doctors’ Association and the Chief Executive Officers and Chief Medical Officers of all District Health Boards.
Mr Andrew Connolly, chair of the Council was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit: Member (MNZM) in the 2019 New Year Honours list for services to health.
